Jewellery Care
What types of metals are used in your products and how do I care for them
We use 14k gold filled, sterling silver and gold plated Brass/ Stainless Steel for our jewellery. Learn about each metal and how to care for them below.
14k GOLD FILLED
What is gold filled
Our gold-filled findings are made of brass as the base metal and have a thick outer layer of 14 karat gold that is permanently bonded to it. To be considered as Gold-filled, an item must have a minimum layer of gold that is at least 1/20th or 5% of the total weight of the item.
Why should I buy gold filled jewellery
Gold-filled jewelry is a durable, high-quality, and affordable alternative to solid gold. It has a thicker layer of gold than gold-plated and gold vermeil, which leads to long-lasting plating. 10+ years with proper care.
Is gold-filled safe for sensitive skin
If you suffer from a severe metal allergy, it is recommended that you avoid wearing any type of jewellery that contains these metals. This includes gold-filled and gold-plated pieces. However, if you only have a minor reaction, then gold-filled jewellery may work for you as the gold plating is thick and will not wear off easily.
For a much safer option, you can choose hypoallergenic alternatives like gold vermeil or sterling silver ( unless you are allergic to silver). These are cost-effective substitutes for expensive metals like solid gold.
How do I care for gold filled jewellery
It can be cleaned with warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Alternatively, wipe after wearing with a dry soft cloth.
STERLING SILVER
What is sterling silver
Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper.
What is the difference between Fine silver and sterling silver
Fine silver and Sterling Silver differ mainly in their purity level. Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver, but it is too soft and malleable for everyday wear.
To make it more durable, pure silver is mixed or alloyed with other harder metals to create Sterling Silver.
Will my sterling silver jewellery tarnish
Over time, any sterling silver will tarnish due to exposure to water, perspiration, pollution, and chemicals. However, tarnish can easily be removed with a silver polishing cloth.
How do I care for sterling silver jewellery
Sterling silver is easily cleaned with colgate tooth powder, warm soapy water or a silver polishing cloth.
Is sterling silver safe for sensitive skin
Sterling silver is considered hypoallergenic and is sensitive skin-friendly. However, if you are allergic to silver, we recommend avoiding it.
GOLD PLATED
What is gold plated
Gold-plating refers to a thin layer of gold applied to a base metal like copper, brass etc using an electrochemical plating process.
we use brass and stainless steel as our base metal.
Why should I buy gold-plated jewellery
Gold-plated jewellery is a low-risk and cost-effective way to refresh your style and add versatility to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. It's one of the best options on the market for those who want to elevate their look with affordable costume jewellery.
For a rich gold finish, choose our 18K gold-plated brass or opt for 18k gold-plated stainless steel for a deeper toned look that is suitable for hardware as stainless steel is a hard metal.
Will my gold-plated jewellery tarnish
Like any plating gold-plating will eventually wear down to the metal underneath and discolour - this will happen naturally with wear. The speed in which this happens is dependent on base metal, Skin PH and the amount of wear and conditions it is kept in.
Is gold plated jewellery safe for sensitive skin
Gold-plated jewellery has a thin layer of gold which will wear down over time so may be irritating to the skin if you have sensitivities to any of these metals.
